Consulting with Canadians

Consultation Process

The Task Force’s consultation process has come to a close.

The Task Force embarked on a very ambitious public consultation, spanning the period from February 22 to May 27, 2010.

Members of the Task Force travelled to every province and territory and met face-to-face with 175 individuals and organizations in 14 communities across Canada.

We received more than 270 submissions over the 12-week period from the launch of our consultation document in February to the May 14 deadline. We also received more than 280 comments from Canadians through our online forum, which ran for six weeks alongside its public meetings, closing on May 13, 2010.

Next Steps

As we examine the wealth of statistics, information, research and comments that Canadians have provided us, we will now begin the process of discussing what we heard and begin to develop our recommendations to the Minister of Finance.

By early fall, we hope to be able to post a complete record of the information provided to us in our consultations, including:

  • a summary of all the comments we received;
  • all the submissions received by the Task Force (while of course respecting the wishes of anyone who asked us to withhold their name or their submission from publication); and
  • the comments posted in our Online Forum.

This public archive, reflecting the views, values and concerns of Canadians, will also serve as a standing reference guide for our Task Force as we formulate our final recommendations through the autumn.

We invite all those who wish to be kept informed of our progress, including the publication of this record of the consultations, to sign up for our Email Newsflash.

We will provide our final report to the Minister, as scheduled, by the end of 2010.
